i believe a swag report is in order

‘Tis xmas, and happy holidays to you and you and you.

It was a good one indeed, I ate so much I honestly began to worry for my wellbeing.
During every festive meal me and my brother compete at who can eat the most, measured by number of plates. I won this time, at 2 and a half. I topped it off with two slices of cake. I won alright.. but at what price? I like to think it was worth it, to send my brother down the spiral of shame, fueled by his crushing defeat.

What other part of xmas is important?
Jesus? Hell no.
It’s the swag. Or loot if you will. And this years outcome? Purple.

Presenting X-Mas swag report of 2008:

Wacom Bamboo Drawing tablet.

Olympus Digital Camera

Charles Dickens Collection DVD

Documentary on the Norwegian Resistance during WW2

Darth Vader Bobble-Head

The Game, by Neil Strauss

A wallet type-dealy

A dragon type statue dealy

After Eight

Cash

Additional notes;
The bobble-head situaton was pretty funny, I bought my brother the same thing. Although I got him a Clone Trooper, and he got me a Darth Vader.
After Eight is something I get
every year from my mother, probably for as far back as I can remember. To me, After Eight smells like x-mas.

As a little treat for my faithful reader (non plural intended), a drawing I did with my Wacom tablet.

christmas in october

If the title is any kind of indication, it was my birthday last week.

October 5th to be precise.

Every year i end up obsessing on how many people remember my birthday, even subconciously i do this.
It’s like a way to measure how many friends I have. This years outcome? Bleak.
It always surprised me how the people i least expect to remember are the ones who do.

I got a lot of congratulations on my facebook wall, but honestly that doesn’t count at all. Whoever is on my friends list and who happens to be online will see it’s my birthday.
Because of this feature my wall became somewhat bombarded with cookie cutter messages. People i haven’t spoken to in years, people i’m sure never knew when my birthday was, even people I don’t really know.

Maybe they felt obliged to congratulate me on my 21st birthday, but for what? I really hope I wont be congratulated my any strangers next year. It’s honestly very awkward.

In related news, I believe a swag report is in order.

I received an external 750gb HDD, which is much needed since my laptop is running low on space.
I also got a DVD rack, holding 96 DVDs, I’m using it for my games, but I still need a few more racks for my 30-something loose DVDs.

That is all for now. Perhaps next time i will tell you about my toenails.

don’t worry, i’m soulstoned

Long time no post, nobody cares.

Since we last spoke, you and me, I finished school (for now) and I received a B on my student film. I am pleased.

I spent many moons slacking, until a few weeks ago when I got a job. If you know me very well, you are probably laughing. Hold your mockery until I tell you what job I have.

I’m a recruiter for Amnesty International. It’s like telemarketing, but I work on the streets, kicking it real with my homies. Face2Face, as the project is called.

I’m not a very outgoing person, you know this. In many cases I’d rather cut my tongue off than speak to a stranger, and that’s why this job is good for me. Until recently I was pretty damn useless at it too, but I’ve been improving this week. The best part of the job is the people though. No, not the countless people on the street who reject us, but the people I work with. They are all awesome, barely any assholes at all.

So if you see us in the street, take a minute to talk. You will be enlightened and our spirits will be lifted.

In other news, my internet connection has been unstable due to thunderstorms. But it’s better now.

I’ve been hanging out a lot at GiantBomb.com lately, its a pretty cool site.

Opeth’s new album rules.

I have a cat, she is awesome.

I shot the sheriff.

Free at last

Good lord, for the past months i’ve been working on my final project for school. It’s a short animation about a witchdoctor and an unruly zombie. Long story short; it was exhausting.
Today is delivery day and i finished two days ago.

And you know what this means, summer vacation! Woo!

It’s not gonna be much of a vacation coz i need to get a job. . . Good luck with all that.

Anyway, happy trails

Grand Theft GOTY

See what i did there? Grand Theft Game of the year. A pretty good pun in my opinion, I like it. I’m suggesting that GTA IV will steal the GOTY title from. . . . Actually i don’t know, because it’s still early, and who knows how good this year will be for games.

All i’m saying is that GTA IV is in fact good. Really good. I’m not going to review it because there are enough reviews out there already, but let me atleast verify that they are indeed right; this is a good game.

Although the vehicles are hard to handle (they feel harder than in old GTA games) and Niko feels sluggish and stubborn to handle. Those are my only complaints. Otherwise this is a very good game, atleast for as far as i’ve played.

I can’t get online on XBL because my account is suspended due to “problems with my payment option”. I’ll have to look into it, but for now i don’t really have any incentive to fix it. I won’t be playing GTA much online anytime soon, even if i could.

It’s really late now, i wish i were sleeping. I don’t know why i am not.

it’s a good day, take a picture

I done bought some movies today. Let’s talk about the movies i bought today. But first, i’d like to talk about the store i done bought them.

I walk past it almost everyday on the way to school, but it’s never open that early. On the way from school to the library i decided to drop by.  Their selection was unlike any other store i’ve been in. They seemed to focus on good movies, and stuff that’s definitely worthy of being in your collection.  They had a 5 films for 200nok (24€) But all the movies in that selection were pretty shitty. Though they had some cool stuff like the Japanese release of Prozac Nation. I have no idea why they had the Japanese release of Prozac Nation.

Anyway, the two movies i bought were. . .

waking_life.jpg

Waking Life.

I had seen this movie some years ago, mostly as inspiration for a shortfilm i made for school some years ago.
It’s very philosophical and very enlightening,  if you get a chance to see this movie.  I strongly suggest you do.

black_sheep.jpg

Black Sheep

Haven’t seen this movie yet. It’s about mutant zombie sheep going crazy in New Zealand. Nice to see an unusual idea, hope they executed in a similarly unusual manner.  Will it be Jurassic Park with sheep?  Night of The Living Dead with sheep? Babe with zombies?  Only time will tell.

In other current news, MJ fixed my pc. He is a genius in jeans.

Recently acquired music

I never used to buy albums much, I`d usually steal borrow them from my friends but recently I`ve actually bought some albums. Why you ask? Because as I`ve become older I`ve learned to appreciate music more, and some bands really deserve to get their music bought.

So, this week I bought two albums. Both from friend`s recommendations . . .

Numero uno . . .

The Eerie Cold, by Shining.

I love this band, it was in desperation of finding a new band that a friend came to me. Like a prophet descending from the sky wielding a holy artifact, only this artifact was a note with one oddly fitting word: Shining.

I have 3 other Shining albums, and this one is probably my favorite, along with Halmstad. The album only has 6 songs but they`re all so great there`s no doubt it`s worth your money.

For years I`d almost only listened to Opeth. I hadn`t grown sick of them, but I wanted something new before I did. Shining is that kind of progressive black metal I like. Also the singer is a complete nutcase, and i truly appreciate that. I`m not gonna talk too much about the band or their music because I am not a music connoisseur, so I`ll stop now before I say something that`ll make me sound like an idiot. Unless it`s too late.

The other album I purchased was

Demanufacture, by Fear Factory.

I got the 2005 re release, which has some bonus songs that weren`t included in the origina. Horay.

I don`t know what to say about Fear Factory, but this album has some awesome tracks. Like Self Bias Resistor, Pisschrist and A Therapy For Pain. This album sort of takes me back because I used to listen to it alot a few years ago.

People call Fear Factory “Industrial Metal”. Personally i can`t give you a definition without stealing it from wikipedia, but i can tell you this: I like it, I like it alot.

Another friend of mine gave me some songs by a band called Sybreed, it sounded pretty good so I`m most definitely going to check them out some more.

PS: There is something terribly wrong with my brain today, I can`t seem to spell anything correctly and I have used the spellcheck atleast 8-10 times on just this entry. It doesn`t help that my keyboard is now suddenly writing like a US keyboard, I can never remember the keyboard shortcut to turn it off. I know there`s a little thing down at the taskbar but I need the shortcut, I’m a shortcut kind of guy.

PPS: I now regret having that Ice Coffee for breakfast, that stuff is 50% milk.

Near Death experience #6147

(Picture stole'd from aftenposten.no)
The captivating fiesta that was the KoRn concert last night.

I’m saying near death because if you’ve been way front at a concert before you know it can be quite.. hectic. People pushing, jumping, moshing. Honestly i feel like i need to get in better shape for next time!

But to get to the point, the concert was awesome.

The first warmup band was the swedish band Deathstars, they were okay and all.. but their subtle gayness sent shivers down my spine, and i don’t mean the good kind of shiver. Aside from that they played well and had a cool dynamic.

The other band to warm us up was Flyleaf. They were good, pretty darn tootin’ good indeed. But as my concert-comrade Baldwyn said; “That was one of the most antisocial performances i’ve ever seen”. What he meant by was that the singer never spoke to the the crowd or made any form of communication, which i guess is kinda lame. To be honest i just wanted them to get the hell off the stage and make room for koRn. It was, however, pretty funny when she dropped the mic. And i dont mean how MC’s drop the mic. I mean her butterfingers slipped and the mic fell to the ground.

The bassist was hyperactive and kept jumping off platforms, we waited in eager anticipation for him to fall on his ass, but apparently he is a skilled around-jumper.

Compared to koRn’s performance all that seemed crippled, the mic could have dropped in perfect timing for it to be jammed up the bassist’s ass as he fell and it still would have been bleak in comparison.

koRn mostly played their new stuff (which is sad since their new stuff is.. just so so) They did play some old classics though, like Falling Away From Me, Got the Life, A.D.I.D.A.S., Here to Stay etc etc. For their encore they played the numero uno classic Blind. Too bad only two (yes, two) of the original band members were there. Head left the band a few years ago, David Silveria is taking a break from the band and James Shaffer left the tour because of the some “personal issues”. Therefore only Fieldy and JD where left. Which is cool, they had enough awesomesauce for everyone.

All in all, awesome experience. Even though i don’t listen to koRn as much as i used to, it’s still a delight to see them live. Their music is so headbang/mosh friendly. Indeed i ended up in the moshpit a few times. And indeed i almost fell on my ass atleast once. I had to show up at school with a torn t-shirt, smelling like sweat and garbage. Luckily no one seemed to notice the difference.
